Medical Marijuana Symposium

Event Description

Implications and Considerations for Clinicians and Prevention Professionals

Doctors can recommend marijuana for medical purposes currently in Ohio and, in early 2019, medical marijuana retail stores (dispensaries) will be open in communities across the State.  If Ohio is like other states, use of marijuana will increase and, like other addictive substances, there are some who will struggle with the addictive and mental health implications that marijuana could have.  As a clinician or prevention professional, are you aware of the science behind marijuana?  Is it safe for everyone to use?  What are the considerations that other states have experienced?  In order to help clinicians and prevention professionals navigate those questions, The Ohio Association of County Behavioral Health Authorities (OACBHA) is hosting a Medical Marijuana Symposium: Considerations and Implications for Clinicians and Prevention Professionals on November 9, 2018, to help answer some of those questions and, perhaps, bring into mind some issues to consider as medical marijuana is introduced.

This will be a valuable event if you are a clinician, prevention professional, social worker or those who have questions about the implications of this policy on behavioral health.

Speakers will include:

  • Dr. Aaron Weiner, Director of Addiction Health, Linden Oaks Behavioral Health (Illinois)
  • Jessica Nickel, President and CEO, The Addiction Policy Forum (Washington, DC)
  • Dr. Mark Hurst, Director, Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services
  • Marcie Seidel, Executive Director, Prevention Action Alliance
  • Tony Coder, Director of Programs and Services, Ohio Association of County Behavioral Health Authorities
